Bush staff gloats OBL tape is a "gift" -- get this out there

That's right--8 Marines are dead today and the Bushies are happy that OBL is still at large.

NY DAILY NEWS

"We want people to think 'terrorism' for the last four days," said a Bush-Cheney campaign official. "And anything that raises the issue in people's minds is good for us."

A senior GOP strategist added, "anything that makes people nervous about their personal safety helps Bush."

He called it "a little gift," saying it helps the President but doesn't guarantee his reelection.

They have a media blaster section.  I think it is under the campaigns section.  But, it is pretty easy to find.

Richard Clarke's view on the Tapes (none / 0)

There was good interview on Public Television, Charley Rose last night.  "... Actually, OBL would want us Americans to be as stressed as he likes. That would mean prolonged state of fear, isolation, and anxiety."  Check it out.

We need to spin this as Americans are disgusted, (none / 0)

outraged that the Bush campaign is celebrating the OBL tape. This shows how morally bankrupt the party is that they care more about electoral advantage than the securty of the country and killing bin laden. Kerry doesn't even have to say anything, we can do the hard hitting for him.

KOS has frontpaged "gift" quote (none / 0)

KOS has frontpaged this story and everyone is jumping in.

My view is still that we should attack the Bushies' gloating, but not seem to politicize the tape ourselves.

It is their complaining about politicizing the tape which is going to bite them in the ass ... if there is enough time for the story to blow up...

And I'm also glad Kerry is attacking on this, too. He can't back down now, not from anything. Not from the GOP, for sure.

Lockhart On National TV/Radio (none / 0)

Joe Lockhart was on National Radio and on AP News as well as Air America this afternoon commenting on the Bush campaign saying the tape was a gift to them and pointing this out for everyone to hear. Move On should throw an ad together showing the tape then showing the quote from the Bush campaign saying that the tape is a gift. Email the networks...make them broadcast it...

Just found this site while browsing- Question of the day as to whether Bush or Kerry would be more likely to catch OBL. Good site for us to go to and vote for Kerry.

So far many more people believe Kerry will catch OBL.

OBL would want Bush elected (none / 0)

With all the wishful thinking aside, we Dems should see OBL's timing objectively.  Between Bush and Kerry he has family feud with Bush. Because, Bush 41 had a hand in Lebanon in 1982, and Saudi Arabia in 1992, and more over it is the W family that stays involved with his arch enemies - the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. In his view point election W means we American will suffer in three ways: 1) helping him recruit more; 2) getting screwed by our own conservatives to the point of bankruptcy both fiscally and in terms of liberty.

Most informed people would conclude that OBL is trying to finesse the undecided voters to lean for W.   Many astute voters will know that. Then again, an astute one will not be undecided! BAD!

NY TIMES' take on voter reaction to OBL Tape (none / 0)

There is on op-ed from Dowd a main feature article by four authors (reporters from Iowa, Denver, NV, UT, CA, OH) saying that voters have not changed their mind due to OBL tape.  In fact, some even pointed the theory that OBL would prefer GWB be elected.  It is beneficial to him.

"People I know are so polarized, it doesn't make any difference." - says one couple in thar article. "Of the few undecided voters found by reporters roving through five cities, none said the tape had tipped the balance," say the authors.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/31/politics/campaign/31voices.html

By the way, US is getting ready to sell F16 to Pakistan last week there was a press release on this.  Until Pakistan gets it, they wont help US catch this guy... Kerry will never approve proliferation of this kind. Given the volatile state of Pakistan, selling nuclear warhead capable planes to Pakistan is not a good idea. If OBL guys take over Pakistan, between India, Israel and Iraq (with US presence) you can decide where his choice would be.

It is in Gen Musharaf's interest and of GWB team to perpetuate the game for another four years. Also OBL would benefit by increased recruitment.  This is why most intelligent voters should not get triggered by the tape.  If anything they should seek a fresh start to hunt for OBL. That is Kerry & Edwards.

ANTHRAX ANYONE? (none / 0)

OK.. this might not be competely relevant, but it woke me up in the middle of the night, so I had to share.  I hate Bush so much, I admit, I cant think objectively, but I agree with Kerry, that Bush failed in the hunt for OBL because he was obsessed with colonizing Iraq.  So I think we can agree that Bush failed in protecting the US from international terrorists.

What about domestic ones?  Last I heard about the anthrax attacks, the strain of athrax used in the attacks only exsisted in the US, and it was a strain that was weaponized by the government.  Considering the difficulty in producing that specific size particle, the conclusion, last we heard, was that it was stolen from a restricted US government biological facility.  Only a limited number of people had access to those labs.  Bush couldnt find OBL at Tora Bora.  He also couldnt identify the terrorist who attacked the US with anthrax, and we havent been reminded of Bush's failure for over 2 years.

Get the popcorn ready, and prepared to be regaled by the awesome footage we will see when our forces liberate Fallujah.  I hope we get that al-Zarqawi guy in time for the election.

John McCain loves war.
