Supreme Court Orders Texas Redistricting Review

It has no chance to impact the 2004 elections, and I am not holding my breath for a partisan Supreme Court to overturn a partisan manipulation of the Constitution, but the battle over the Texas map is not over yet:
The U.S. Supreme Court ordered on Monday further consideration of a challenge by Democrats and minority groups to a controversial Republican-backed congressional redistricting plan in Texas.

The justices in a brief order granted an appeal by those challenging the plan and set aside a ruling by a federal three-judge panel in January that upheld the bitterly contested map.

The justices ordered further consideration by the federal panel in view of their ruling in April that upheld a Pennsylvania redistricting case. They did not elaborate further.

If this map in overturned, our chances in 2006 improve dramatically.

Re: screw our 2006 chances (none / 0)

I like the attitude.  I'll be happy if we take back the Senate...Any thing else is extra icing.  I would like to cut their lead in the house, which should prime us for a 2006 take over, although except for 2002, the incumbent party of the president usually loses seats, so the Dems may have a small loss since Kerry is going to win.

Our chance to take an even larger majority in 2006 will improve.

Wasn't there a DEM version of this? (none / 0)

I cna remember reading a dem version of this earlier this year.  Basically, a dem dominated state did the same thing as that piece of scum Delay did in Texas...except the Dem state lost in court.

Even with a partisan court, I can't see them supporting this.  It will set a bad precident that can hurt the GOP as much as help them.  I think the short sited ness of THomas and Scalia and Reinquist will show, but ultimately I think it will be a 6-3 (or 5-4) decision saying it was illegal.  Just my guess.  I hope you revive this thread when the decision happens.

Schweet! (none / 0)

This is my first post in the mydd community.  I am so psyched about this entry, after getting the "news" today about the Gallup poll showing Bush up by 8% among LVs.  I knew it had to be that same oversampling of Repuglicans.

Thanks so much.  Go JFK!!
