Olbermann's catching up to Rhodes... (2.00 / 7)

...with his latest rants per tonight's comment: "Clinton is Bush."

Totally off the deep-end in Obama-ville.

I hope cooler heads prevail 'mongst Obamaniacs in coming hours and days.

Disaffecting fellow Dems is  totally counterproductive.

Heads are exploding over at the Big Orange tonight, as well.

Very uncool all around.

We are ow trying to heal our divisions and behave nice with each other.

"Disaffecting fellow Dems is counterproductive".

Get it Bob?

"Obamamaniac" is THEIR term... (1.80 / 5)

... at my county convention, the Obama delegates had home-made t-shirts and signs with "Obamamaniac" all over them.

So -

- let me get this straight:

It's TRable to call the Obama supporters a name that, they themselves, have endorsed?

Really, you make my head spin.....

Traditionally self-identification has always allowed wider margins of expression than labeling-the-other.

E.g., don't use the d--- word if you're not a lesbian yourself, or the n----- word if you're not black.

Re: "Obamamaniac" is THEIR term... (none / 0)

No, politeness vs rudeness has nothing to do with Orwell. Everything to do with proper-vs-improper familiarity.

Someone can't be polite/rude/offensive to him/herself. Another person can however be polite/rude/offensive to them.

Therefore I can be offended by words you say to me, even though I would not be offended if I said the same things about myself.

Is this now plain enough for you to understand?

Really, the concept of improper familiarity is hardly a new one.

What's your view of Taylor Marsh? (2.00 / 1)

She calls herself a "radio host," but she's not even broadcast on air anywhere. She can't get a gig. And she's inane as Randi Rhodes.

Re: What's your view of Taylor Marsh? (none / 0)

I believe I read somewhere she did some "vanity radio" on some small station, where she paid to be let on the air.

So, I guess you can say she's an ex-radio-host for certain values of "radio host".

Other than that, she's an intellectually dishonest, inconsistent hack. Internet's full of 'em.

Unfortunately, both Rhodes and Marsh attract the type of following that either doesn't care so long as they're on the "right" side, or their respective audience are so emotionally involved and caught up in the race that they can't recognize these people for what they really are.

That'd be fine if it wasn't they're helping drive the wedge in between the two "sides" that really do need to unite at some point, or we all pay the price.

The creastive class shows (2.00 / 4)

its classism.

The Democratic Party is fissuring over class.

Barack Obama could move a long way toward represeenting the entire Party by condemning thees remarks.

No man or woman is trash.

Ineed. "white trash" derives from the same system that oppressed African Americans in teh South.

It's an opening for him.  He should take it.

Randi Rhodes is driving herself out of business. (2.00 / 1)

Soon, she will be "radio host" the same way Taylor Marsh is a "radio host." No stations, just a podcast.

Under those rules, we all can be "radio hosts."

Bob, I am not demanding he do so. (2.00 / 0)

I'm saying it would be smart for him to do it.  It would be a way to get good press and appeal to those outside his base.

I don't know if you are just not very intelligent or that you assume everything is an attack on Obama.

I uusally try to ignore stupidity, but damn, think a littke next time.

There's a difference.  All you see is Obama and how to trash Clinton.

Re: Give me a break, Tom. (2.00 / 1)

Actually, she outperforms Limbaugh and O'Reilly in a number of areas. Portland, for one, and Palm Beach, LA, etc.

She's a blowhard with Brooklyn Tourettes. If you can look past that, she's a good journalist and a solid liberal.

I disaree - Ms. Rhodes is not a good journalist.. (none / 0)

I stopped listening to her quite awhile ago.
The reason? Her penchant to play lose and hard with the facts. (I'm being rather civil here.)
And have you ever heard her make a correction when she was factually wrong? I haven't. And God forbid that a caller takes her to task - even her most gentle, ardent supporters - they then receive an unhinged rant and are promptly hung up on.

Re: The creastive class shows (none / 0)

Except Randi grew up in Brooklyn in a working class home, never went to college, went into the Air Force, drove and big rig, etc. She's not "elite" by any means. She just has what I call "Brooklyn Tourettes." She's a blowhard. When she's calm, she's real smart.

Re: Good riddance, Randi. (none / 0)

Hey shaddap I was one of them!

Seriously, I thought white trash voted GOP (unless they are Limbaugh Liberals.)

The old ladies voting Hillary are doing the pro-woman thing. That's not white trash.

The Catholic working class folks can't be called white trash (or at least, before the Clintons shipped off their jobs they couldn't). But those voters, at least all the ones I know (and I know quite a few) aren't too bright rewarding the folks that cost them their jobs. The reason, at least with the folks I know, is that they aren't usually keen voting for a black person.

Re: I listened to her for a while (none / 0)

No, not Limbaugh, because ideologically she is solid. She's a true liberal who cares about the poor and vulnerable, justice, the Constitution, etc.

But I totally agree about being mean to callers. It always bothers me.

Re: I listened to her for a while (none / 0)

Exactly.   Rhodes is actually very smart and informed, but she treats her callers like dirt unless they suck up to her.  God forbid someone should call in and disagree with her.. she gets really nasty and sarcastic with them.  I got tired of that very quickly and stopped listening a year ago when Al Franken left.
