I gotta disagree with you here. He violated company policy, and in a way that would directly influence their client base. I'm pretty sure he was well aware when he outed himself that he'd have to lose his job as a result.

I think Jerome's making a much subtler point; not that he should still be with BSD, but that BSD should have let him say "I resigned" rather than "we fired him".

Maybe. But I think it had less to do with Obama and more to do with protecting their reputation with clients and potential clients - Obama among them. To say that he resigned would mean it was his decision to leave. BSD had to make it clear that he had no choice but to leave.
