John McCain Has the Judgment to Lead

Last week, President Obama announced that the United States will scrap plans to house  missiles shielding American allies like the Czech Republic, Poland and American bases in Europe from threats from Iran and other adversaries.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) issued the following statement:

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) made the following statement today on the Administration's decision to cancel plans to build a missile-defense system in Eastern Europe:

"I am disappointed with the Administration's decision to cancel plans to develop missile defenses in Eastern Europe.  This decision calls into question the security and diplomatic commitments the United States has made to Poland and the Czech Republic, and has the potential to undermine perceived American leadership in Eastern Europe.  Given the strong and enduring relationships we have forged with the region's nations since the end of the Cold War, we should not, I believe, take steps backward in strengthening these ties.  Yet I fear the Administration's decision will do just that, and at a time when Eastern European nations are increasingly wary of renewed Russian adventurism.

"Given the serious and growing threats posed by Iran's missile and nuclear programs, now is the time when we should look to strengthen our defenses, and those of our allies.  Missile defense in Europe has been a key component of this approach.  I believe the decision to abandon it unilaterally is seriously misguided."

According to the LA Times, Russia has since responded to the Obama administration's repositioning of US defense weapons to more strategically accurate locations by abandoning their plans to place weapons near Poland.

I'm not sure if Obama's move avoided a rehash of the Cold War or a World War II style fight for Poland. What will President McCain, Secretary of Defense Lieberman and Attorney General Graham say about the Russian response?

Re: John McCain Has the Judgment to Lead

Tit for tat... I like Obama's moves in this regard.  I can't even imagine what US-Russian relations would be like right now were McCain president.

"I can't even imagine..."

I can't either but I bet it wouldn't be friendly.

Re: "I can't even imagine..."

His lies are amazing, he's continuing to act as if the proposed missiles in Poland were to counter Iran, while even the Polish & Czechs have now confirmed they were actually aimed at Russia.

Where is Mr. Straight-Talk ?

Re: John McCain Has the Judgment to Lead

This is such a win-win for Obama I can't believe it's being questioned. Of course, the MSM isn't doing a very good job of reporting the bottom line, which is:

1. The US will put in place a PROVEN defense capability capable of thwarting an Iranian attack much sooner, and for less money.

2. The Russians have already announced they won't deploy missiles to counter the defenses that were planned for Poland and the Czech Republic.

Which makes this a win-win-win result.
