The Embattled Mr. Burris

I'll give him this, Roland Burris sure is scrappy. And he seems to have an admirable lack of self-awareness, which allows him to claim, with a straight face, that his statements have been entirely consistent and that the media is out to get him. It's almost endearing.

But the reality is, despite Burris's persistent defiance, things are getting worse for him every day. Today's revelations: his spokesman resigned and among those now calling for Burris's resignation are a group of prominent African-American pastors from Chicago.

From The AP:

A Chicago minister tells The Associated Press he and other black pastors who previously supported U.S. Sen. Roland Burris now plan to ask him to resign. The minister spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because a meeting with Burris hadn't yet been scheduled. He says the senator can no longer serve effectively.

Many of the city's black pastors supported seating Burris because of his scandal-free reputation -- even though he was appointed by then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich after the governor was arrested.

But revelations that Burris attempted to raise money for Blagojevich while seeking the Senate job have eroded some of his support. Blagojevich is accused of trying to sell the Senate appointment.

How he recovers from losing the black pastors I do not know. Mr. Burris, please put your sad career in congress out of its misery and allow Illinois an untainted representative in the US Senate who can run as a strong incumbent in 2010. It's well past time.

The un - Embattled Mr. O

How come both Burris and Blogo were BOTH supported for Governor by Obama but now he gets NO heat whatsoever for what kind of men they are?

Its like he never met them ever!

It was so obvious after the Rezko crookedness - ie the $700,000 housing discount - was ignored that the fix was in - and that no one was ever going to connect Obama to the real Chicago/Illinois corrupt pool where he developed.

Remember4 the same media that did this also helped destroy Gore and put Bush in the WH...

BEWARE!!!!

If you break a coffee cup in the morning, is it SOMEHOW Barack Obama's fault?

Really, this obsession is very unappealing, you need to start to let go...

Yoga, take a trip to the Aegean, glass blowing lessons, learn to play the flute...

You need to fill your life with something besides March of 2008?

an admirable lack of self-awareness

Seems to be a common condition in Congress.

Roland resign? Something about an incredible lowering shift in the ambient temp in Hades comes to mind...

Re: an admirable lack of self-awareness

Agreed.  They're gonna have to shoot Burris with a tranquilizer dart first, wait for about 20-30 minutes, and then drag him out of the senate chambers kicking and screaming.

I mean, really, any man who would name his daughter after himself obviously has no shame and believes his own bullshit.
