Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

Yeah, that's their new line. He's intense! About issues!

On a meeting with Senator Corker and his staff, who oppose Franken's anti-rape amendment:

The meeting quickly deteriorated when Franken began berating one of Corker's aides, according to GOP aides familiar with the incident. Franken's sally was so harsh that Corker told Franken to lay off his aide and direct the comments at him instead.

Nothing says "uncivil" like a passionate argument in favor of the rights of rape victims.

On Iraq and obstruction:

Another GOP staffer, an aide to a Senate Republican leader, found herself at the sharp end of Franken's wit at a recent reception in the Senate's Mansfield Room. The tongue-lashing took place at an event to celebrate the swearing-in of GOP Sen. George LeMieux (Fla.).

After the conversation began ordinarily, Franken started to grill the aide about what he sees as the failings of the GOP. Franken demanded to know why it had become the "Party of No" and had exaggerated facts in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, according to another GOP leadership aide.

The horror, those poor Senate aides.

First they called him a clown. Then they smear him as too passionate. Look, they probably just believed their own prejudices, and now they can't handle the reality that Al's actually brilliant and dedicated.

Go Al.

I like Franken.  He has a little mean streat in him ... and that is a good thing.   He is a fighter.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

I remain a huge Al Franken fan, even though he's a member of the 'Gang of 60'.

Ha! Love it. Al Franken is one of my favorite senators also. I was so happy when he finally won.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

Franken is speaking on the Senate floor right now. He apparently supports the 'turd' which the 'gang of 60' intends to pass on xmas, and so he's splainin' why in his new and very serious manner.

His manner is less animated than Senator Wellstone's was, but he's every bit as passionate and at least as smart.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

I am sure all these anonymous Republican aides are giving a fair and balanced account of events.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

The times I have met Al he seemed like a bit of a bastard...and that's even though he likes my wife and son quite a bit.

I think he's just that much smarter than most people, and those folks just sort of come off that way.

I certainly wouldn't want to piss him off.

Wellstone would be proud of Franken

as his re-incarnation from MN.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

One more example of why Dems/progressives need to be more confrontational on issues with Republicans. Whenever I call my senator's offices, Cornyn and Hutchison, their staff members just crumble and have no defense for any of their votes. It is kind of amazing and shows how superficial Republican talking points are. The media lets them get away with it. We should not. Democrats should use every opportunity to mock and ridicule the one-dimensional crap that comes out of Republican leadership right now.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

Sorry. It's too much fun to mock and ridicule our own side.

Re: Republicans: Al Franken Is Too Serious

I'll publish Franken's current floor speech on this thread when it is available. He's being real good.

Love Al.

Glad to see a genuine strong progressive who isn't afraid to stand up to Republicans.
