The Childlike Senator John Cornyn

If you think all elements of the GOP are prepared to get on with the business of the nation and not throw childlike fits of pouting, well, think again. Today, Senator John Cornyn of Texas objected to including Hillary Clinton's name in a unanimous consent vote for several Cabinet nominees, scheduled for hours after the swearing-in of President Obama. No, instead Senator Cornyn chose to act like a petulant child and deprive Senator Clinton of a unanimous consent vote. Now instead, a roll-call vote on Seantor Clinton's nomination to be Secretary of State will be held on Wednesday. She will be approved then. Senator Cornyn aimed to embarrass Senator Clinton, but he has, in fact, only embarrassed himself.

Re: The Childlike Senator John Cornyn

I'd love to see that role call end with Cornyn as the only dissenter.

I'm betting it'll be 96-3

Cornyn, Diaper Dave, and either Coburn or Inhofe.

Good point

and Salazar was confirmed, so he won't be there. Hillary probably won't vote on her own confirmation. So I'll say 93-3.

These Repugs show their true distasteful colors.

Still filled with anger, division, and hate.

Let's hope at that they at slaughtered at their next elections.

The email I sent to little johnny

You, Sir, are an obstructionist pig. Your hold on Ms. Clinton shows your lack of class and it is people in congress like you that helped to create the mess we are in. You should be ashamed of your actions today.

This is fascinating

we'll finally get to know whom our own worst senators are just by judging those opposed to Senator Clinton on a roll call vote tomorrow.  I'm guessing it'll be Vitter, Inhofe, and Cornyn - and absolutely no-one else.

Biggest bonus -we can still defeat Vitter in 2010!

A better adjective?

Childish, not childlike.

Re: A better adjective?

Yes child like is usually a positive denoting having the wonderful qualities of childhood.  It can be a negative when it refers to naivate.  But this use revers to selfish and shortsighted behavior driven by tantrum or  temporary pique.  That's generally referred to childish.

What's Cornyn's problem with Hillary?

On the day that Hillary gave her final farewell speech in the Senate, John Cornyn stood up not five minutes later and started trashing one of Hillary's big priorities -- the Lily Ledbetter Bill.

So no, I'm not surprised that he is doing this.

Re: The Childlike Senator John Cornyn

Senator John Cornyn refused to permit a voice vote confirming Hillary Clinton's appointment as Secretary of State. thus preventing her from joining other appointees confirmed on inauguration
day.

A bush league move by a sleasy Senator from Texas - doesn't he realize that Hillary Clinton is ready on day one?

Re: The Childlike Senator John Cornyn

As I read, the senator from Louisianna made the only nay-saying vote against Senator Clinton's inevitable appointment to the Obama adminstration's Secretary of State. Cornyn's backwards refusal to live in the present and credit Senator Clinton for creating her own independent political record of people-centered and world-empowering achievements is a reflection upon what Cornyn does with his energy.

Like a politician stuck in a worn down rut, Cornyn's energy has just been expended on precisely what our new president has warned that none of us can afford to do. Waste our energies.

I wouldn't mislabel Cornyn's circuitous immobility as "childish" because it's quite apparent after seeing and hearing the children during the inauguration processes that most children are much more foreward thinking, have a clear desire to do their part well for our country and the world, and do not hold on to the past with resentment, rivalry and partisian supremacism.

Cronyn has behaved shamefully as a partisian supremacist. Perhaps he should be next to lose his job.

Re: The Childlike Senator John Cornyn

Well put. Many children have much better sense than Texas' Senator Cronyn. Consider the source, the state he represents, his Bushite anti-Clinton background and power-mongering.
