Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

Jerome Corsi seems deeply disturbed - not every kind of bad-tempered conservative can smear national figures in print and on national TV the way he can. It takes a special kind of person; perhaps the kind that thinks the World Trade Center went down from controlled demolition:

The clip has Mr. Corsi discussing the findings of Steven Jones, physicist and hero of the "9/11 Truth" movement who claims to have evidence that the World Trade Center towers collapsed due to explosives inside the building, not just the planes hitting them, during the attacks.

"The fire, from jet fuel, does not burn hot enough to produce the physical evidence that he's produced," Mr. Corsi said. "So when you've got science that the hypothesis doesn't explain-evidence-then the hypothesis doesn't stand anymore. It doesn't mean there's a new hypothesis you've validated. It just means the government's explanation of the jet fuel fire is not a sufficient explanation to explain the evidence of these spheres-these microscopic spheres-that Steven Jones has proved existed within the W.T.C. dust."

You see someone with a copy of Corsi's book? Ask them if they knew about Corsi's views on 9/11.

Someone should tell major booksellers what kind of garbage this guy peddles. And maybe ask CNN to stop booking the guy.

I don't mind that the vidiots on the teevee feel the need to discuss a book whose sales are inflated by wanker tank bulk buys...

I just think they should provide adequate warnings about which news cycle this crap will pop up so I can stab my eyes and ears out well in advance, that's all.

Re: Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

Mr. Corsi believes that the government is responsible for 9/11... and at the same time has written several books for the sole intention of keeping the people who would have orchestrated the attacks in power.

Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

What's good for the goose...

I"m suspicious of 9/11-- so sue me.  But if those of  us on the left with legit concerns about the response on 9/11 (why no fighter jets over DC?) that point to major Bush Admin incompetence (incompetent in a crisis? Bush?) are hooted off the stage... let's make sure we do so for this guy too.

Re: Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

This is a bit ridiculous. I'm from Canada, and since 9/11 I've been addicted to US politics, as I was 18 in university when they happened, and the whole, 'They hate our freedoms' that most politicians were spouting seemed like BS to my young mind.

That there hasn't been a true independent investigation of 9/11 is a failure of both parties ... especially the democrats who are supposed to protect people's freedoms.

Here's the point, this Corsi guy is obviously lacking in Integrity, his smear books are dishonest and must be debunked on TV to stop this from becoming a swiftboat thing again. But there are many people in America and the World that think that something more is going on in relation to 9/11, so using that to counterattack this guy makes no sense and is not relevant.

Other people that democrats and progressives like think a new investigation of 9/11 is warranted and that the people with the most to gain (the military-industrial-congressional complex) from 9/11 MAY have had a part in it. We won't be able to say either way until a proper investigation under oath according to the law, and not fear and political expedience, is conducted.

Raising concerns about 9/11 doesn't make someone untrustworthy ... lying in books about honourable men makes them unworthy of anyone's trust. Corsi's dishonesty in his new excuse for a book should be attacked, 9/11 truth has nothing to do with it.

"Raising concerns about 9/11 doesn't make someone untrustworthy"

Only someone from Canada could say something so true and so completely beside the point in American politics.  This whole exercise is about optics.  If an interviewer began a segment by getting Corsi to admit that he had concerns about the official government story on the attacks, the rest of the interview might as well be about "New Coke" versus "Coke Classic".

Re: Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

I understand completely. That's the exact thing I'm pointing to ... of course it makes him look bad, and you can smear him with it (he deserves everything thrown at him) ... it's just unfortunate that the spectrum of debate has been narrowed so much and minds closed so small by character assassination that bringing up concerns about 9/11 leaves you with no credibility when it is a legitimate concern of many Americans.
I'm not defending this Corsi guy, he's obviously a douche bag that's really cashing in on this crap. And while it has nothing to do with winning elections, do you want to continue to have elections where speaking the truth and one's convictions can be a bad thing?
Anyways, bottom line, attack Corsi on his statements about Barack, the 9/11 truth stuff in my opinion has some validity to it so using that as a club may score points may not be helpful if what you want is civil liberties, protection of rights and the rule of law. Since those rights, laws and liberties have been under heavy assault since 9/11, which still hasn't been independently investigated.

The US needs to get it's @#$% so countries like mine can stop abusing power as well, that's the leadership in the world that is missing which many Democrats refer to in speeches and policy positions.

Re: Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

yeah, I didn't mean to attack you or Canada directly.  Just poking a little fun, eh?

Your larger point that Democrats should be able to win on expanded ideas etc is a good one.  But, honestly, there's a lot of us in the U.S. who don't really give a crap how it's done.  I'll take the low road to the White House any day over a bunch of belly-aching op-eds complaining about McCain's disastrous Presidency.  Winning, in this case, really is everything.

Corsi was apparently on radio today denying he's a "truther".

Further, the Obama campaign omitted one sentence from the Corsi quote above in order to bolster their claim that he's a "truther".

Re: Interesting

Sometimes it's amusing when the far right and far left share the same paranoid theories about the government.  Thanks for chiming in to join the list.

Like we'd listen to anything that right-wing wacko spouts?  Corsi is so far out there it's scary.

Re: Smear Merchant Also A 9/11 Truther?

I noticed that there is a reference to Steven Jones - boy does that ring a bell.  He was one of the researchers who initiated the now very dead search for cold fusion back when I was on the faculty at Florida State University.

The understanding of science he and his coworkers showed in that endeavor was horrible.  They really all knew very little about nuclear physics and were out of their league to say the least.  No wonder he is a "hero" to the conspiracy theorists....
