Update [2008-2-5 21:18:21 by Jonathan Singer]: We're waiting to see if other networks join in, but Fox News (which I could only access by punching in my parental block code) has apparently projected New Jersey for Clinton. At last, an iota of good news for this sad Clinton supporter :D

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

The night is going very well for Clinton actually. So far she is doing far better then projected in the states she lost like GA.

by kristoph 2008-02-05 04:08PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Pollster Average for GA was 51-37 Obama. It's 60-37 Obama right now. The average is from polls taken this past weekend, all which were roughly around there. Highest showed Obama with 53. Over performing in Georgia?

Stuff it. She's hitting her mark and he picked up all the undecided.

kristoph can speak for him/herself, but I think he means exit poll projections.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

I second that.

by Scan 2008-02-05 04:00PM | 0 recs
Let me second that sentiment...

Any objection?

Hearing none.

Motion carries.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Not a surprise at all. Obama might be able to keep it close and win more delegates than expected there.

I wonder how DE, NJ, and CT will shake out.

by Kal 2008-02-05 03:59PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Clinton will win NJ, Obama DE.

CT is still up in the air. Initially the Obama camp thought they would lose it but now their more confident.

Either way it's a wash, delegate wise.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Big win for Clinton.  The entire political establishment in MA was behind Obama (Governor, two senators and a majority of the congressmen).

by drpd02 2008-02-05 04:00PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

big win?!? you mean not losing a state where she had a 25 point lead a week and a half ago?

talk about lowered expectations

by omar little 2008-02-05 04:01PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Really. If Obama comes within ten points in MA the Kennedy endorsement would have worked wonders.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

that was before the most popular politician in the state endorsed Obama.  And if this was supposed to be such an easy walk for Clinton, why did Obama have his last big rally in Boston last night...where he started speaking as the late night news came on?

by drpd02 2008-02-05 04:08PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

A week and a half ago, Obama had not been endorsed by half of the Kennedy clan. That's major.

Kerry, Kennedy, Patrick couldn't deliver

the goods for Obama. Interesting...

By the way, I got an e-mail today that looked like it came from Obama, but was actually from a johnkerry.com address. Does Kerry still have 2 million people on his e-mail list?

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Why are all of a sudden all the Obama peeps now saying to every state Hillary wins, "well...it doesnt mean she won the delegate count."

by werd2406 2008-02-05 04:01PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

It might be because this is a delegate race.  But that's just my guess.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

I was pointing out the fact that no matter what Hillary does, the Obama peeps can find a way to spin it their way.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

I don't really think that's a candidate specific trait...

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

SURPRISE.  She's going to win NY.  DE is also ridiculously close.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Fox News called DE for Obama.

by Statman 2008-02-05 04:05PM | 0 recs
Re: I thought Obama was expected to win

Given that most polls never had him close, I don't think so.

by HSTruman 2008-02-05 04:02PM | 0 recs
Re: I thought Obama was expected to win

Most polls had Clinton up, but at least one or two showed a close race within the last week.   And Obama did have his last big rally last night in Boston

by drpd02 2008-02-05 04:05PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Fox News also called MA for Clinton.

So much for the Kennedy endorsement.

Front page headlines from tomorrow's issue of "Duh!" Magazine.

No suprises so far.

Obama wins DE

First surprise of the night, but still not all that unexpected.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

I thought he was expected to win in MS??? Guess not! Guess Dems didn't want the Kennedys telling them who to vote for.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Considering that essentially half the family endorsed each candidate, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

by rfahey22 2008-02-05 04:07PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Yeah, but the half that mattered in Mass endorsed Obama. The half that has a strong presence in NY endorsed Clinton.

by Iphie 2008-02-05 04:26PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Hilarious that Clinton supporters will act as if a close victory by their lady is some huge upset when she was up by nearly 30 points about two weeks ago. That crumbling inevitability...

by craigk724 2008-02-05 04:06PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Really? I beleive the Obama peeps were shitting themselves about how MA is theirs now they have the Kenndys and Kerry suporting them

by werd2406 2008-02-05 04:08PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

The polls never showed an Obama lead, so there wouldn't be any reason to expect a win there.  Maybe some Clinton supporters are making this up in their own minds to inflate their sense of victory in MA.

I thought the Obama train was picking up steam and he was contesting NY! So much for Omentum.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Suffolk had him ahead a couple of days ago, and Rasmussen showed a relatively small Clinton lead.

by Shawn 2008-02-05 04:17PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Actually, a suffolk/Channel 7 news poll came out over the weekend showing Obama up by 2.

by drpd02 2008-02-05 04:19PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Inevitability crumbled a month ago. Although as far as Clinton supporters are concerned it never existed. What we see crumbling now is momentum.

by souvarine 2008-02-05 04:09PM | 0 recs
OK

I'll say it...

I'm a mildly disappointed Obama supporter.

I thought this +/or MO would be two Obama surprises.

Still - thus far, I'm pretty happy with the totals so far.

Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts

Good- I don't like how Kennedy conducted himself and this is a good slapdown for him.

by reasonwarrior 2008-02-05 04:12PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts

Kennedy, Kerry, and Patrick. Kennedy and Kerry did more than just endorse him. They actively campaigned for him. MA voters tell them they can think for themselves. Excellent.

Other states

CNN has Clinton up by 14 points in NJ with 24% counted. Do we expect this to tighten up?

Obama has a humongous lead in Kansas. Is that because he's sort of from there, or is it that Clinton never campaigned there?

by OrangeFur 2008-02-05 04:17PM | 0 recs
Re: Other states

The CNN exit polls only had Clinton up by 1 point or so in NJ, so either there's going to be a tightening or something is way off.

by Steve M 2008-02-05 04:19PM | 0 recs
Re: Other states

Fox News has already called NJ for Clinton.  Apparently, she is doing really well with the Latinos.

This will bode well for her in CA and NM.

by Statman 2008-02-05 04:20PM | 0 recs
Re: Other states

That's great news. At this point it's not about trends and signs for later, it's about winning. NJ is a big state with a lot of delegates. She needed that one.

by OrangeFur 2008-02-05 04:25PM | 0 recs
Re: Other states

He was expected to win that because he is from Kansas.

by kristoph 2008-02-05 04:22PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

Cnn says: Clintons wins over 70% of latino vote and doubles Obamas women vote in NY

by werd2406 2008-02-05 04:19PM | 0 recs
Giant margins

The margins in these states are enormous. Obama is leading by 36 and 38 in Alabama and Kansas. Clinton is ahead by 29 in both Tennessee and Oklahoma, with a decent fraction reporting in each place.

It seems very odd.

by OrangeFur 2008-02-05 04:24PM | 0 recs
Re: NBC News Calls Massachusetts for Hillary Clint

I guess Obama did pretty bad among latinos in IL

by werd2406 2008-02-05 04:26PM | 0 recs
More updates

CT getting closer, but while it'd be nice for either side to win for PR purposes, it will likely be a delegate wash.

Clinton has a nice margin in both MA and NJ. I feel like she's doing quite well. Am I mistaken?

by OrangeFur 2008-02-05 04:31PM | 0 recs
don't let media spin out of this

hillary has won nj and mass. when they came on the air, they thought obama would win there.
