Hillary Clinton Wins California

MSNBC just called California for Hillary Clinton. Glad to say I'm happy.

Update [2008-2-6 0:15:8 by Todd Beeton]:Tom Brokaw: "Not a good night for Senator Kennedy."

Update [2008-2-6 0:19:13 by Todd Beeton]:John McCain wins California. Man, doesn't look like it's going to be even close for Romney. Dammit. So, Romney leaves tonight seriously wounded although he did win in several states. So what happens now? There's still this moderate/conservative divide but Huckabee has made a real case that he should be the conservative alternative to McCain.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

This was called quite early...hopefully this win will take the narrative for the night...though im sure as much as the MSM built up CA, now that clinton won it im sure it'll dilute in signifigance.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Obama will end the night with close to the same delegates.  Clinton's goose is cooked.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

she'll end up with 100 delegate lead (90 of which are super delegates)

by sepulvedaj3 2008-02-05 07:18PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Yeah, but that's not going to be good enough.  Demographics and money favor Obama in the coming contests :(

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

If super delegates decide the nomination, all hell will break loose.

I hope that doesn't happen

Here's hoping that TX, OH and PA tip the balance clearly in favor of one of the candidates.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

I think Teddy Kennedy is a negative factor, if anything.  He's hurt McCain (immigration reform)as it looks like he may lose more states than he'll win tonight.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

I said earlier today that California wouldn't make a big difference either way because it would come in so late.

I also said the exception would be if this was a blowout.

It sure looks like it will be a blow out for Clinton.

The exits look huge for her.  Marin county is running close.

This will be the news.

by rcipw 2008-02-05 07:17PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

So far the only county in which Obama leads is Marin, the wealthy northern suburb of San Francisco across the GG bridge.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Holy guacamole.  It must be a pretty big win for her if they called it this early.

What happened to "California won't be settled until tomorrow"?

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Zogby's biased; Clinton and Obama are still about equal (but Clinton has the big story of the day).  Now we go into round seven...

Can they just be on the same ticket now?

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

I think he means Feb. 9 and 12.

Is there any polling out of MD and VA? Why are these assumed to be for Obama?

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

'cause there aren't any women here?

I assume they think 20-29% AA population, and high income, means Obama territory.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

If Obama is close in delegates -- or be still my heart, actually ahead -- then Clinton has a tough road ahead.  The next month does not favor her.

by alydar 2008-02-05 07:18PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

That's the truth. MD, VA, DC, WA, VT, and LA are all very favorable for Obama's young professional/African American coalition.

by Kal 2008-02-05 07:19PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

If Clinton blows out Obama in California, it'll be played as a "split decision", with Obama winning more states, but Clinton winning more delegates.

If it's close, Obama wins both categories and gets all the positive press tomorrow.

Obama EMBARASSED!

Has Kerry, Kennedy, Patrick ...blown outin MA.

Boldly predicts yesterday in NJ that he'd win NJ and CA ... azz handed to him in NJ.

McCaskill ... at least she can show her face.  He should win by 1% there.

Napolitano?  Obama beat badly in AZ.

But hey he won South Dakota and gave a humdinger of a speech.

Bye Bye Barry.

Re: Obama EMBARASSED!

Obama should have told Kerry not to endorse him- I mean, too many democrats blame him for losing the last election- it would have been better if he stayed out of it but his ego wouldn't let him.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

While nobody is a clear winner, the CLEAR LOSER tonight is ZOGBY.  His reputation has to take a hit for the ridiculous California poll.

by CVDem 2008-02-05 07:18PM | 0 recs
Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

I used to think that some pollsters were just better or worse at what they do than others.  But now it's clear that certain pollsters try to sway elections.  Zogby's weighting, which assumed that women would only be 50% of those voting, was absolutely ridiculous.  Sometimes I wonder if he just made up his numbers.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Zogby and Rasmussen were way off.

Survey USA called Massachusetts, Rasmussen flopped on it.  Survey USA called California right, Zogby and Rasmussen look like complete crap again. Survey USA was right about other states as well.  How can Zogby explain away predicting a 13% Obama victory when indeed this has the makings of a Clinton blowout victory in California?

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Obama actually caught up quite a bit in TN. The 29 point lead is down to 13 or so.

It looks like Clinton will end up with a 15 pt margin in MA and 10 point margin in NJ.

If CA actually holds up, this will mean rather sizable wins in four of the five biggest states.

by OrangeFur 2008-02-05 07:24PM | 0 recs
ANd Reuters will continue to use them

Zogby has been the most wrong NJ, CA, MA all wrong

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

No, you won't.  Because it being this close, Obama will end up as VP, he will have the right to it.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

It would be selfish and stupid not to.  To make history, for one thing.  It would be an inspiration to ever African-American kid in the country.  Most minorities would kill to have a VP slot- a gay Vice-President would be huge for the gay minority but there is certainly no chance for that for another fifty years.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Well, I guess we know why neither Hillary nor Obama were campaigning in California the last few days.  They must have seen this result in their internal polls, and triage dictated that they spend their time elsewhere.

Re: Hillary Clinton Wins California

Calling a race with 15 percent of the vote in means it's a blowout.   Nothing wrong with it at all if that's what the numbers show.  Why call Georgia for Obama as soon as the polls closed with_no_ vote tabulated?  (Assuming Zogby wasn't doing the exit polling.)
