Open Thread

I'm heading down to the Bay Area tomorrow to begin law school soon at Boalt Hall (University of California at Berkeley), and as such have been spending a great deal of time in the past few days since Yearly Kos packing (and blogging at a less rapid pace than normal). Things should pick up by next week again, however.

For now, the good folks at Crooks and Liars have been kind enough to put up a portion of one of my panels from Yearly Kos, one in which I, along with Christy Hardin Smith, Digby, Taylor Marsh and James Rucker, talked a little bit of contemporary politics. Take a look if you're interested.

Consider this an open thread... What's on your mind? Also, if you want to make fun of how I talk, look, or appear on the tevee, please feel free.

So you get to decorate John Yoo's office with toilet  paper?

Re: Open Thread

yay for law school - starting 2L year in a few weeks here in nyc.

Are you starting now or returning for your 2L or 3L year?

1L year completely demoralizes you at first, but just stick with it and it will be good after. I dont know if you will have much time for blogging as in depth as your blogs now though.

Good luck with law school. Here's an open thread topic:

Re: Open Thread

Coincidentally, I too start school in the fall ..to become a paralegal.
Justice for all is just a slogan nowadays, as I found when I needed an attorney but didn't have much money.  And lived in a red state where 'Legal Aid' is a joke.

Seriously, I'm mad as hell about it ..and found a solution.
I'll be self employed, make good money and can kick some ass: that's a Democratic activist's idea of heaven!

I encourage every man and woman looking for a new career and wants to be a part of shaping the future of this country, take this course or another good reputable one like it:
http://extension.ucdavis.edu/unit/busine ss_and_management/course/listing/?unit=B M&prgList=LGL&coursearea=Paraleg al%2FLegal+Studies
It's an online course so there's no excuses, and an array of loans and grants will help you pay for it.

There's a huge imbalance now throughout the country in support of all kinds to the middle and lower income classes.

Voting just isn't enough anymore to change that.

Re: Open Thread

Enjoy your first year.  It is quite a lot of fun, despite the stress and workload.  Read the cases (it will make you smarter and prevent you from getting embarassed in class), but remember: they only actually test the blackletter law.  Learn those rules!

I recommend the book "Getting to Maybe" as a very fine guide to getting good grades your first year.  We live in a Report Card World, after all...

Great work with MyDD

Hey, Jonathan--

Well done, all around.  You've done great work for MyDD and for Oregon Dems.  Your recorded interviews with candidates and political leaders will be listened to for years to come.  Thank you for your hard work and insight.

And best of luck in law school.  We expect more great things from you.

Cheers,

Oh, yeah, and well done on the YK panel.  The Johnson example was spot-on.
