Beshear Wins Outright

I'm told that Steve Beshear narrowly won the Kentucky gubernatorial primary in the Democratic Party, beating corrupt Liebercrat Bruce Lunsford.  Lunsford just conceded.  This is very good news.  Beshear was not expected to get to the 40 percent marker, and a run-off seemed to be in the cards.  But Besear won outright.

Mitch McConnell is in trouble.

Update [2007-5-22 22:41:16 by Matt Stoller]:: Beshear won 40.9 to 21.4. Lunsford had all the insider connections, money, and pull. And he got spanked.

Very cool.

Do we have any numbers on this race?  Just wondering.

Any news on the GOP front?

All I can say is GO FLETCHER!

I see that Fletcher cruised to victory (50.9%).  Welcome, Governor Beshear.

Beshear will be good

Beshear won the magic 41% and we can avoid a costly run-off election.  This is the first step.  McConnell's looking at a dark future.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

This is great news.  My understanding is that Fletcher is unelectable.  He is certain to depress Republican turnout in the general, and therefore makes a McConnell upset plausible.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

McConnell's pick (Northup) losing over Fletcher is noteable and hopefully Beshear winning the election in November will surely shake McConnel up, but depressed turn out in the Gov. election won't hurt McConnell as the Gov election is in 2007 and McConnell's election is 2008.

Smacks forehead!

That's right, I forgot that 2007 is not 2008.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

Wishful thinking perhaps? I can't wait until we can elect a democratic president and start repairing the damage that has been done.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

with this much coverage for the Presidential race, who would guess that the election is still one and a half years away...

Vote Totals by Party

Eyeballing it, it looks like:
(R) 202,000
(D) 245,000

Not bad.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

Thank you all for the nat'l spotlight.  Many folk were impressed that the Nat'l progressive community was keeping an eye on this race and behind Beshear.  I know of at least two Locals that were moved by this development.  Keep us in in the forefront and we'll have our revenge and DITCH-MITCH!!!

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

unless Beshear makes a really stupid mistake it's hard to see him losing this race, I wonder why Fletcher is even bothering with this.

Re: Beshear Wins Outright

This is great news, I am so happy to see Lunsford defeated.  Watching McConnell's smug ass tell George Stephanopolous that essentially Nancy Pelosi will have to do what the Republicans in the Senate want (regarding the Iraq funding bill) was too much for me.  I wanted to jump through the television.  Beshear is going to be a great Governor as well.
