Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

Here's the statement.

"We just called the CBC to let them know that we're looking forward to their January debate with CNN but we're not going to participate in the proposed debate with Fox. The CBC champions critical issues that matter enormously to the future of our country, and we look forward to discussing them throughout this campaign and at their debate in January. But we believe there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective. If there was any uncertainty as to Fox's objectivity, it was put to rest when they attacked Democratic candidates, Democratic constituency groups, and the Nevada Democratic party when their last proposed debate was cancelled for lack of support."

Black America is not being represented by the CBC Institute in this instance, but by Tavis Smiley. Here's Jack and Jill Politics:

There's a whole other layer of activity here to consider. The reason the DNC is able to backslap the CBC's ill-considered partnership with racist "news" network Fox is because there is a rival Democratic debate being run through PBS with emerging black leader Tavis Smiley at the helm.

Tavis has been playing it cool and hasn't said anything (to my knowledge) rapping the CBC. But his actions speak for themselves. PBS is a network accessible to all. The debates will take place at 2 historically black colleges bringing much appreciated attention and resources to these HBCU communities.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

Which one of you came up with the "Bar Fight Primary" concept - you or Bowers? No matter, this is a perfect example of how John Edwards has got our back, and will not give any legitimacy to right-wing smear-mongers. I love it.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

Is the Democrats vs. Fox News struggle going to become a fixture of this election? God I hope so!

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

This is SO simple.

Think Pravda in the 70's and 80's etc.

Think Faux News from 1995(?) on.

Do Democrats want to have a debate on a Repug controlled cable network?

The history of Faux News is a great predictor of the quality(?) of questions they will ask.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

I said exactly the same thing to my husband ... no prevaricating, no seeing which way the wind blows.  Just a firm, strong statement of conviction - which is what we need right now more than anything.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

Very good news. Cheers of solidarity with black progressives. Perhaps the CDC is getting a solidarity phone call right now...from Joe Lieberman?

Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

This is great news.  Once again, John Edwards leads.

The others had time to do this, but waited for a leader to act.  It says something, a lot.

Edwards has what it takes to be President.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

John is making himself a leader in our movement, or at least a leader against the conservatives.  He is setting some of the standards by which other candidates are judged, both by their policy proposals, and by their actions in the campaign.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

I like Obama, he is incredibly inspiring and charismatic -

But stuff like this is why my vote goes to Edwards.  No doubt no doubt. The more that Fox is exposed as the propaganda outlet it is, the better for the country.

Edwards is Picking a Barfight for Young Voters

A lot of young voters, those in College, and those who are still paying it off like me, pay very close attention to what presidential candidates DO about our problems.

Edwards just picked a effing huge fight.  He's taking a good fighting position on Sallie Mae Inc., predatory lending, the Credit Card industry and college loans.

This is what a lot of young voters who pay attention have been waiting for. This is what I've been waiting for.
Check out the series of posts and comment threads over at Future Majority to see why this is key.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

The more I see of Edwards & his policy positions, the more I'm impressed with him. I never give to candidates in primaries on principle but I'm breaking this tradition to donate to his candidacy.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

This is silly and childish. If Edwards were to be elected president will he also not talk to Syria and Iran because they have a different worldview? And did he not know of Fox News' bias when he was making  more than 20 appearances on their news shows? Is this guy running for Commander-in-chief or Panderer-in-chief? It's alarming how some of us can condemn Bush for not talking to our enemies and yet hail Edwards as a hero for using the same Bush logic.

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

Fox News isn't (to my knowledge) developing a nuclear energy program, with the (distant future) possibility of becoming a weapons program.  Fox News also isn't sitting on a significant portion of the world's oil.  Fox News also doesn't border Iraq.  Fox News also isn't run by people who may be willing to co-exist peacefully with America.

What happened to the League of Women Voters?

The debates were so much better when they were hosted by the non-partisan League of Women Voters. Now that they're (as far as I can tell) run by the political parties directly, they're increasingly content-free, designed to create sound bites instead of substantial dialogue.

How can we get this changed back?

Re: Edwards Pulls Out of CBCi Fox News Debate

EDWARDS IS THE MAN THE NEOCONS FEAR MOST AND THEY HAVE GOOD REASON TO FEAR THIS ATTRACTIVE ARTICULATE MAN.  HE HAS THE SENSITIVITY AND GRAVITAS TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEMS.  THE MEDIA WHICH IS CONTROLLED BY THESE NEOCONS TELL US OBAMA WALKS ON WATER TO DIVERT US FROM THE BEST CANDIDATE.  PRESIDENT EDWARDS ----- AHHHHHHHHHHHH
