MI-08: When a billboard could be more effective than TV

This is not exactly an adwatch--more of an ad suggestion. There are those few times when a billboard, or some other type of ad, can be more effective than a TV spot. In MI-08, I think one of those times has arrived:

And yes, this is an actual photo, and that is actually Congressman Mike Rogers.

In MI-08, the Democratic nominee, Jim Marcinkowski, is facing a huge cash deficit against Rogers. However, this district as a PVI of only Republican +1.9. Further, this is the sort of image that could turn a campaign around. Put this on a billboard. Make it into a float. Even without a caption, this is just unbelievable, but I would like to hear some possible billboard captions in the comments.

Here is my contribution ot the caption contest. For this to be a billboard, write "Republican Congressman Mike Rogers," at the top, and at the bottom write "The Republican Congress is Going In The Wrong Direction."

I wouldn't vote for anyone who was incapable of putting on a rubber glove properly.

Manly man

Congressman Mike Rogers is such a manly man that he doesn't NEED a rubber glove for such an operation. Just the political will and an electorate willing to look the other way.

Caption:  Some say Representative Mike Rogers has his head up his ass.  Where will he put it next?

what is this photo supposed to be?

Seriously, I don't understand what this congressman was doing. At what event was this photo taken?

Reminds me of that guy (in Colorado??) who was running for office when a video emerged of a tv appearance from the 1980s, showing him styling some other man's hair, or rubbing his shoulders. Who was that guy?

Re: what is this photo supposed to be?

This was a skit put on at a Rotary fundraiser for a local senior center. So at least Mike Rogers made an ass of himself for a good cause.

Re: what is this photo supposed to be?

The event, apparently, was a skit of some sort at a Rotary Club gathering.

What he is doing, however, remains wide open to debate.

It was Montana

I think it was Max Baucus' republican opponent.  The guy owned a hair salon and was vaguely feminine.  The Baucus campaign wanted to run a negative ad on him and claimed the only video footage they could find was this clip of him in his shop, massaging some guy's scalp.  The ad ran statewide and pretty well destroyed him.

This congress needs an enema! Vote Jim Marcinkowski.

Re: Caption

Hm... the only problem with this is that it makes people think our candidate is like the enema.  The only thing worse would be a douchebag. ;)

Don't do it

Using this for a serious campaign attack is not a good idea.  It could, ahem, backfire.

Best to keep it circulating in the blogosphere for kicks, but keep it out of the Democratic challenger's campaign.  There is no substantive message and it's not reinforcing any weakness that I know of. It's just a shot of the GOP guy acting silly.  Given that it was fundraising for a good cause, best not to make a big deal of it.

It is ripe for jokes though.  Besides instructions on how to don a rubber glove (btw, a heavy duty cleaning glove won't cut it), Congressman Rogers could use a gym membership.

Re: Don't do it

My exact thoughts... Hopefully some one doesn't have the "great" idea of making this public for the mainstream. This would secure a victory, not a defeat in my opinion.

"What position will Rep. Rogers assume next?"

Seriously, brought me back to a nasty moment in college, where a couple of fellows in another dorm got high, naked and one ... ahem, penetrated ... the other with the broad end of a spoon.  For the record, neither of them was named Rogers.

Pointless Ad

This is a terrible ad.  I have no idea what it's saying.  And I sure wouldn't know what it was saying if I was driving by at 70 mph.

heads off
i followed back to the original photo, but even more bravely, selected the gallery for lip=stync. except for the one photo (which was part of an "airplane" skit) there was much to enjoy...being a withered old coot like i am. i actually thought the guy bending over was the public servant...which was funny, to an old withered coot like me.
might as well substitute the guy's butt with the honcho's head.
