It appears that the recent Moveon.org Campaign for an "Oil Free" congress is already making local news and blogosphere, and appears to have it's first tangible victory. Tom Davis, in responding to a Fairfax connection article titled, "Davis Critized for Ties to Big Oil", Tom Davis stated
"I've never taken a nickel from oil companies," said Davis. "MoveOn.org has been widely discredited ... It's going to be a long [campaign] season."
Follow me below the bump to see exactly how much money Davis has taken from the oil companies. Mr. Davis, your right, it is going to be a long campaign indeed.
Representative Davis, who is Chairman of the Government reform Committee stated that he hasn'e recieved a nickel, let's look at the numbers.
According to OpenSecrets.org Davis has already taken $12,500 from Oil and Gas companies in 2006, and we're are still in June!!
Contributers include; American Gas Association, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, Occidental Petroleum, Washington Gas Light Company, and Williams companies.
In 2004 he took $13,000 from Oil and Gas PACs
In 2002 he took $11,500 from Oil and Gas PACs
In 2000 he took $11,500 from Oil and Gas PACs
In 1998 he took $15,500 from Oil and Gas PACs
In 1996 he took $22,560 from Oil and Gas PACs
In 1994 he took $30,800 from Oil and Gas PACs
Not a nickle? Mr Delay, that seems like $104,860 worth of nickles.
Mr. Davis' opponent this year is Andrew Hurst a local lawyer who won the DC's Bar Assoc. "top lawyer under 40 for community service", and he also went up against Ken Starr in the 90's and WON.
Note, the poll is also Ms. Chamblee's
