Open and Action Thread

This is an open thread that you may use to discuss anything political or anything non-political. Also, you may use it to post action alerts. Here are netroots actions I recommend: Take action and tell people what is on your mind.

what's on my mind
I was thinking about a Democratic Free Energy Program.  To be started here in the states and exported to other nations.

Democrats of all types sizes and tax brackets agree to chip in on a single solar/wind energy complex somewhere in the nation.

The goal would be to buy the land, buy the equipment up front and then start providing free energy to people who need it.

You other folks know how to build this into a feasible proposal, I'm just throwing it out there.

If one is successful others will follow.  Allowing the masses a way to help a single community and effect its future is powerful stuff.

I Dig the Call to Action
How about:

Write a letter to the editor.  It is the most widely read section of that paper and will reach people who aren't reading this blog.

Do something in your community.  Volunteer w/ the local political party club of your choice.  Or w/ a nonprofit that serves your community.

Check the blogroll on the left and see if there is a blog for your state.  Read, comment, participate, find out what is going on locally.

There is actual bad stuff happening out there, beyond the blogosphere.  And you don't have to go to Baghdad to find it.  It's right in our own back yard.

There, I feel a little bit better now.

Paul Hackett for Congress- Ohio Election August 2
http://hackettforcongress.com/
I want to push this guy's campaign up a few notches.  He's running for an Ohio Congressional seat vacated by a Republican, and he's running against another favored right-to-life Republican shrew.  He needs money, help, and exposure. Since this is the only game in town right now, we should all be able to jump in with some heavy-duty support.  This is the kind of new blood we need moving up through the Democratic ranks.
Every single activist resource should be helping the Hackett for Congress campaign in Ohio.
Somehow the text of my first comment didn't make it.

'Mad Dog' Hostettler's stealth amendment
Hostettler going ape (or is that, going Bolton?) over the USAF Academy amendment was horrible.

What has got not much publicity is that last week, that same guy had an amendment to override a Federal court decision upholding the First Amendment in a 'Ten Commandments' case. It was the Schiavo Circus all over again.

And that amendment passed. Heavenly intervention was not required because 38 Democrats decided to vote with Taliban John, and send a Cornyn-style warning to the judges.

Will Senate Dems make a stand for separation of church and state by rejecting the amendment? Are Dem activists going to put any pressure on them to do so?

Or will they think that defeating the Bolton nom is enough insurgency for one year?
