Crashing The Gate

At long last... a guest entry praising Sherrod Brown and Mark Warner.

No, Markos and I completed our book, Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots and the rise of People-Powered Politics, so I'm going to make a few entries about the book. The link goes to a pre-order page. We've joined together with Chelsea Green (our publishers) and Working Assets for a progressive partnership to launch the book. No more Murdoch, this is a 100% progressive partnership.

Actually, it's not 100% until the readers sign up for the early "Progressive Partner Special Limited Edition", so click through and order.

btw, how do you like the book cover?

This is a conflict of interest.
Using your blog to promote your own financial interest is completely out of line.  I thought you weren't going to blog until you were done with your campaign-work.  This is outrageous.

book cover
The book cover is clearly a compromise between Kos's (more popular) web-colors and your "primary" authorship.  Am I wrong?
by NCDem 2005-12-07 06:13AM | 0 recs
You can't judge a book by its cover.

"Primary authorship?"
Jerome knows who the "primary authorship" really belongs to...

Nah. They probably hired a ghostwriter like Dick Morris or somebody who actually knows something about politics.

signed copies?
what if i want your autograph on the book cover?  LOL

i'm serious.  you should sell some signed copies for an extra few bucks.  more money to the cause, so to speak.

Re: signed copies?
Look, you want a signed copy? You got it. You want it hand delivered? You got it. You want it, you got it... is that clear?

Fly on the wall...
It would be fun to be a fly on the wall, and watch Jerome practice his autograph-style.  I'll bet he's got it perfected... You can do all sorts of cool things with that last name = Capital "A" thingy...

now that's service!!
i would like a signed copy, hand delivered to my front door on christmas by you wrapped in nothing but a big red bow.  thank you very much.

Is it the book that you want wrapped in nothing but a big red bow or Jerome?

Just sayin'. ; )

I'll take one signed, hand delivered while you and markos cook us a nice dinner ;)

Re: signed copies?
You don't have to hand deliver mine all the way to MN. Or dress in funny bows or have friends cook for me.

But if you and kos could sit at the publishing company for a day (or two) and sign all of the 10,000 limited edition copies that will be sold out soon. Now that would be cool. Speaking for myself, of course, your views may vary.

Re: signed copies?
You mean we've got to pay for signed copies? Pff!

I'm just bummed out that I won't be able to give copies of the book as Christmas, er, I mean Holiday gifts. (Sorry, I nearly forgot there's a war on...)

If it's all the same to you...
I'd actually prefer that you, annatopia sign Jerome and Kos's book.  That seems more unique.  Plus, it would be more rare.

I'm also offering to sign their book, too, as I probably was the inspiration for most of it.

by NCDem 2005-12-07 07:07AM | 0 recs
hey i hear i'm in the credits, so i'll be happy to sign a copy.  and for free!  see, i'm cheap.  not easy, though.

Welcome back Jerome
I think the book and the cover both look terrific. If you aren't going to blog on Warner and Sherrod, I wish you would hook up a front page poster for MyDD who could give us some informed content about their efforts.

The Mark Sherrod newbies came barging in like fightingladyinblue dopplegangers, bashing Hackett and thinking they were entitled to instant respect. I'm afraid poor ole Boat didn't react very well to their tactics.

by Gary Boatwright 2005-12-07 06:28AM | 0 recs
Look, you Hackett sockpuppet
You don't think Jerome has pseudonyms under which he blogs?  the fightingladyinblue dopplegangers are clearly a couple of Jerome- aliases, and Jerome no longer likes you because of how you treated "them" (him).

I've always liked you two, but what's wrong with you both these days?

See what I've been dealing with?
The low quality of DLC trolls around this place has really deteriorated immensely. What ever happened to Liebermanlives? Now those were the good old days.

To get up to speed, you really should check out this lame effort by Buckeye Bob, Sherrod Speaks & Hackett Squeaks. The only one that is still hanging around is this Populism2008 character. Being a newbie, it does not appreciate how offensive it's very name is. Have you considered changing your screen name to NCDem2008?

by Gary Boatwright 2005-12-07 07:10AM | 0 recs
Haven't considered it.  I have considered NCDumb, of course.

You'll have to pay me for it.  I already signed up for it.  Actually... I think I just thought of a brilliant business plan... take over all of the "cool" names on dailykos and MyDD and offer them up for sale... and take out a Blogads advert for each.
by NCDem 2005-12-07 07:54AM | 0 recs
Re: See what I've been dealing with?
I'm no troll so I thank you for not mentioning me.

Joe's been making it very hard on me lately.  You can tell from my comments at Kos but I respect the Senator.

by kydem 2005-12-07 07:47AM | 0 recs
Re: See what I've been dealing with?
And that's the thanks I get for trying to recruit a front page poster to give you and Warner a little help on your side. You've got to admit that you aren't getting a whole lot of quality help from anyone making your side of the argument.

I'm sure that Sherrod is not as bad as Buckeye Bob and his cohorts made him out to be. Who knows about Warner? Without a front page poster like Jerome presenting Warner's side, I have no idea if he's any better than a bucket of warm spit or just another "electable" compromise choice like Kerry was.

by Gary Boatwright 2005-12-07 09:14AM | 0 recs
Re: See what I've been dealing with?
I'm too busy at it is.  I even made a comment over at Kos saying that if anyone nominates me, I'll turn it down.  However, MyDD may be a different story.  I'd have to sleep on it if offered.

Some guy over at Kos keeps calling me a troll and I've been there for about a year or so now with some much needed breaks.

Warner raised 2.5 million last night for his PAC.

by kydem 2005-12-07 09:19AM | 0 recs
Gary, I now think you're a numb-nutted idiot...
Actually, I'm now changing my mind completely (compared to 2 hours ago)... surprise... I now think it's the most numb-nutted idea in the world to have a front-page poster whose sole purpose in life is to present a "positive" spin on two candidates / politicians... and I can already hear the howls of excitement when the "opposition" hears that these front-pagers are hand-selected to post positive stories on a liberal blog... owned and semi-operated by none-other than one of their own employees.  Talk about conflict of interest.  That's 10 times worse than blogging with a disclaimer, if you ask me.

I also think kydem's blatant pandering for the "job" kind of squeamishly weird.
"Please, please consider me for front-page status Jerome, and I would consider taking the job if you twisted my arm."

Actually, that sounds kind of cool.  I'll take the unposted job, Jerome.  I think that my multi-annual record of nonsensical conspiratorial gibberish and hounding of idiots makes me qualified.  Of course, Chris would quit.

By the way... speaking of nonsensical conspiratorial gibberish-talking idiots... where's our good friend Parker?  Has she been banned?

by NCDem 2005-12-07 09:55AM | 0 recs
Me pandering?  Yea, right...

I may have taken Gary's comment out of context.  Clarify, please?

by kydem 2005-12-07 10:01AM | 0 recs
Clarify please...
To clarify stock, I like to use crushed egg-shells instead of egg whites, that way I don't have to waste an egg, and my stock doesn't get an off-taste.

egg shells in stock?
what kind of commie idea is that?

dude, crunchy stock??  YUCK.

by annatopia 2005-12-07 10:19AM | 0 recs
Re: egg shells in stock?
Good lord...
"obviously you're not a golfer"
--the dude

or a cook...

A way to clarify stock, commonly cited in many cookbooks, is to drop an egg white into the unclarified version... making sure that the stock isn't too hot.  Stir it around, and heat it very slowly... and when the white solidifies, all of the particulates attach to it.  Skim off the egg, and presto! Clear stock.

I maintain that you can do the same thing with egg shells, instead.  The egg shells have residue white on them, which serves to do the same thing.  Then, instead of skimming, pour through cheesecloth or a straining, and presto! clear stock.  without the expense of an egg (and if you're an environmentalist wacko such as myself, you buy free-range organic vegetarian diet eggs, which ain't cheap, so you should appreciate the extra savings!)!

Re: egg shells in stock?
What you propose, it's inhumane.  You just end up with a bunch of naked eggs.
by arenwin 2005-12-07 03:07PM | 0 recs
i'm a cook, dude, i'm italian!  i have just honestly never heard of using egg shells to clarify stock.  it seems weird to me.

I actually think I prefer Warner.  He certainly has a progressive record.  Hackett is full of progressive promises (no reason to doubt him yet, though)... Still, I wouldn't want to take sides in a primary.  May the most qualified of the 2 (and the guy most likely to triumph) win.  I don't know who that is.  I'd like to read some blogging by a Jerome-certified front-pager as well.

I wonder if we'll see a blogads advert?  Or is this unnecessary?  That's probably where the controversy is.

I'll start.

I can't believe that we have to read this blatant advertisement posted as "front-page" news.  Why don't the authors of these two sites put their money where their mouth is and actually pay for a blogads advert?

(How's that?)  I'm searching for the Gooper "meme".

What's special about the limited edition?
Is their anything different about the "Progressive Partner Limited Edition"? (Other than that it says "Progressive Partner Limited Edition" on the cover)

BTW, the cover looks much better than the one that was shown by Kos a couple of months ago.

Like the Summer of `05
Ah, that was fun reading through these comments.  It's like August 2005 all over again!

I've been real busy the last few months, running a business and going to grad school in the evening.  But every once in a while I think of NCDem, Gary, Parker, Annatopia, etc., etc, and visit Mydd for a lurk.  Hope you are all well.  Except for votehillary2008, or whoever that was!?!

BTW, I was at the Forward Together PAC Gala on Tuesday evening and met Jerome Armstrong right after Governor Warner's speech.

Jerome -- you were very kind, and I was glad I met you.  As I said to you I person, I was real excited that you chose to work for this PAC.  I wish you the very best.

As for the cover of the book, looks terrific!  I am ordering a copy, and look forward to reading it.  I normally go to a bookstore and skim through a book before buying it, but I'll gladly make an exception.

To all of you, good luck and rest up.  2006 is going to be a bruiser.  Peace.

Another Democrat Forgetting Democrats Abroad

How can somebody as web-savvy as you are allow your book to be sold through a brain-damaged order form that ignores the fact that there are somewhere between four and seven million US citizens living abroad, many of them Democrats who might like to order your book?  Not to mention all of the non-US citizens who might be interested.

Book Cover
I've dutifully ordered a copy, but if I were judging by the cover, I'd pass.  Cluttered, inelegant, no style, no graphic sense.  In short, sXXXs.  Lots of folks out there who could do a smashing cover.  Try to find one and re-work before issue.
