Chavez Defeats the Recall

Not surprsingly, President Hugo Chavez won the recall election in Venezuela. Not surprisingly, the losers are claiming fraud (check out Al Giordino for more on this one). The OAS has yet to file its report as an election monitor, so this story may not be over yet. Still, don't expect Chavez to be removed form power anytime soon.

Venezuelan voting machines give paper trails
As I listened to NPR yesterday about the recall election in Venezuela, something caught my attention:  Supporters of the recall were saying that they wanted to check the paper ballot receipts from the electronic voting machines.

If Venezuela can have electronic voting machines that print out paper ballot receipts, why can't we?
